The head of the Central Bank of Russia, Elvira Nabiullina, announced the possibility of making the first international payments in cryptocurrency in the coming months. In an interview for journalists published by the RBC news agency, she noted that such deals could take place before the end of this year.
"We continue to hope that the first transactions will take place before the end of 2024, and there is interest from the participants," Nabiullina said.
At the same time, she refrained from disclosing information about specific participants and the number of transactions, explaining that the "experimental legal regime concerns international settlements" and now remains closed.
The head of the Central Bank also explained that the experimental legal regime can operate for three years. At the end of this period, the results will be analyzed, which will allow a decision to be made on the need to amend the general regulation. At the same time, it is possible that the conclusions of the experiment will lead to changes earlier, if they provide sufficient grounds for determining the general rules of regulation.
